“to find a home”
the places you live bring an unknown combination of feelings. while spaces contain you, they also contain your memories and emotions, your trauma and triumph.
intimate photos and documentary videos examine the experience of removing oneself from a home, departing for a new start while nothing but an echo remains.
“electric”
photography and research
from the ignition of a neuron to the burning of coal, electricity connects us all. it powers homes, businesses, cars, and exists as a necessity for a basic quality of life, but access is never guaranteed.
to represent these connections, multiple dissected images are accompanied by concise facts regarding electricity: its costs, its consumption, its availability, and its impact on the modern world, each photo connected to its neighbors by concept and content.
“eternally”
material studies and typographic distortion, publication
it is impossible to fully analyze the complexities of conscious and unconscious thought. rather, one must consider the idea that the true experience of knowing is rooted in a curiosity for what is unclear.
through the use of a combination of textured and reflective materials, in addition to the illegible distortion of common language, the spreads communicate a new visual language that represents one’s existence on the border of knowing.
“uni”
publication on “geographies of time” by trevor paglen
in the modern world, time exists as something that is utilized for the unification of industry, but it first existed as the container for the expansion of the universe, the way we measure memories and cultural history.
a combination of chaos and isolation in the arrangement of the text acts as a representation of the relationships between paglen’s current and complete time: both demonstrating the consistent and resolute nature of the universe while breaking convention enough to be reminiscent of modern chaos.
“in my skin”
photo editing and illustration
from the moment a person is born, they begin to experience existence from a bodily perspective. as a sense of self is developed, and a person settles into their mind’s home, there is an urge to tailor this outside self to match the mindset of the inside self.
through the layering of a base figural form and an exterior decorated form, this transformational nature is shown, asserting the impact of manual modification on one’s perception of a once blank figure. while also offering a quote from an interview with a longtime tattoo artist and piercer, the chosen text contributes to the idea of physical alteration and its relationship to the self.
“i fall in love too easily”
videography and audio editing
the commodification of being female can be represented in many ways: through impossible beauty standards, expectations in relationships, media portrayals, etc.
the artist’s disheveled appearance and the extravagance of a ballgown contrast to leave one questioning the reality within the film. the gradual break in the logic of the music and video conveys the artist’s internal struggle with her appearance, her existence as a feminine person, and her difficulties navigating both the natural and man-made world around her.
